Beijing, which has consistently advocated for Afghanistan’s peaceful reconstruction, has even extended a significant invitation for Afghanistan to join the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese foreign ministry further echoed this sentiment, noting that both parties exchanged opinions on strengthening China-Afghanistan cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy and trade.Ĭrucially, China has voiced concern about financial sanctions on Afghanistan, citing them as obstacles to the country’s development. The bank’s spokesperson, Hassibullah Noori, confirmed that the talks spanned several related topics. The meeting was not confined to a narrow banking or business discussion. While there are valid security concerns in the region, the lure of Afghanistan’s untapped mineral wealth seems to outweigh potential risks for China. Its economic strategy is clearly indicated by the fact that Chinese business executives are actively exploring investment opportunities in Afghanistan, especially in the mining sector. These economic hardships have largely cut off the country’s formal banking sector from the global financial system, creating an urgent need for alternative financial partners and pathways.Ĭhina’s interest is not coincidental. Afghanistan’s banking system has been struggling due to a combination of U.S.-led sanctions, a drop in liquidity caused by frozen central bank assets, a decrease in development spending, and regulatory risk concerns of international banks. It’s important to note the backdrop against which these discussions are taking place. Even though formal diplomatic ties between China and Afghanistan are currently nonexistent, Beijing has nevertheless maintained an embassy in Kabul following the Taliban’s takeover in 2021. The discussions between these two prominent figures are of great significance as they indicate China’s incre asing economic interest in Afghanistan, its troubled but resource-rich neighbor. This encounter was aimed at discussing key aspects concerning banking relations, business, and other relevant topics. I do wish the checklist columns were a little wider – they’re quite narrow due to the page size – perhaps 3 sections horizontally would fit more tasks on the page.In a critical move reflecting China’s interest in Afghan economic potential, the Taliban’s acting governor of the Afghan central bank, Mullah Hidayatullah Badri, and Wang Yu, China’s ambassador to Afghanistan, held a pivotal meeting on June 16, 2023. This planner has my favorite weekly layout (horizontal weekly + checklist). MAMBI 2020 sticker from the Dates and Holidays sticker book.MAMBI date dot stickers from the journaling sticker book.BlueSky Noteworthy Planner (see my review in this post). That little pop of border color makes so much difference! I finished writing out all my tasks for the week but something was missing… The top of this planner is wide enough for some washi tape but I thought it’d look a bit overdone so resisted adding it. I kept to my usual blog post planning in the weekly spread and categorised checklists on the second page of the spread. These pens are certainly convenient being 2 in 1 (fine tip and a fat tip), but after you use them for a while the fine tip loses it’s point and turns into more of a marker pen too. Like my problem of having too many planners, I have too many pens! So wanted to use one I hadn’t used for ages – the Staedtler Twin Tip handwriting pens. As you can see, I didn’t use whiteout for Monday but did for Tuesday. If you’re going to use stickers like these over black text, be sure to whiteout first. I also used some date / number stickers from a MAMBI sticker book. I used some whiteout tape to erase 2019 and add a 2020 sticker from one of the MAMBI sticker books. See my review of the planner in this post. One that had been on my shelf for quite some time but I’d yet to try was the Bluesky Noteworthy Planner! I’ve purchased plenty of 1 page horizontal weekly + 1 page checklist weekly planners.
